Classification
ADD, UPDATE, REPLACE, and NOOP — how Vault decides what to write.
Classification prevents duplicate and contradictory memory within an agent before cross-agent policy runs.
Same-agent ops
Pass 1 compares the incoming fact against the top similar active claims from the same sourceAgent.
ADD
No close match — store a new active claim.
UPDATE
Refines an existing claim without contradiction. Updates text, embedding, and lastAccessedAt on the target row. Entity is preserved on the incumbent row to avoid label drift.
REPLACE
Contradicts a prior claim. The old claim becomes superseded (removed from vector index); a new active claim is inserted with supersedes pointing at the old ID.
NOOP
Restates something already known. Processing stops — no DB write.
Cross-agent result
Pass 2 only runs when pass 1 returns ADD. Each other agent's active claim on the same entity is labeled equivalent, compatible, or contradicts. Policy runs only on contradicts.
| Result | Behavior |
|---|---|
NOOP | Equivalent to an existing claim and nothing contradicts — write nothing |
ADD | No contradicting claims — store active (compatible claims stay active) |
REPLACE | Supersede contradicting claims, store incoming as active |
DISPUTE | Store incoming as disputed, contradicting incumbents stay active, disputes row |
